In the process video, what magic is happening between 2:12 and 2:13, when all the shapes suddenly acquire shading? Did you set a linear gradient for all of them?

Yes, in that part I did linear gradients for many parts of the image, didn't notice it got cut out from the video, sorry about that. No magic, just picking each chunk and adding a slight linear gradient
